History

MicroComp s.r.o. was founded in the early 1990s by former employees of the Brno branch of VÚMS a.s.: Ing. Bureš, Ing. Marvan, and Ing. Šmíd. The Research Institute of Mathematical Machines (VÚMS) was the first and most extensive facility in Czechoslovakia dedicated to the development of computer technology, auxiliary equipment, component bases, and special technologies.
Although VÚMS was established in 1958, it built upon the work of an independent laboratory at the Central Mathematical Institute, founded in 1950 at the initiative of Prof. Antonín Svoboda, a pioneer in computer development in Czechoslovakia. The Brno branch of VÚMS focused on the development of peripheral devices, such as disk drives.
The first major contract for the newly established MicroComp was the delivery of flowmeters with a calorimeter for apartment buildings in the town of Šala, initiated by the company Duslo Šala. This was the first induction measuring instrument manufactured in the Czech Republic.
To date, we have repeatedly innovated our original microprocessor, expanded our product portfolio, and developed custom electronics. From the company's founding until 2023, we have delivered more than 6000 devices to the market, demonstrating our expertise in the field.
On 16 August 2023, we were bought by EMKO holding of companies. This integration marked the conclusion of a chapter in the development of computer technology that began in the mid-1960s at the Brno development branch of VÚMS. EMKO holding of companies, in collaboration with Ing. Šmíd, one of the original MicroComp founders, will continue the traditions in the development of measurement and control products, with an emphasis on the trends and challenges associated with 21st-century technological advancements.
